Ibanez SV 5470 - Flamed Maple Sapphire Blue
Spotlight Feb 2026
In the world of high-end and cutting edge guitar making, few companies fare in the same level as Ibanez. Injecting an unwavering desire for crafting high quality pieces into a demanding industrial setup, Ibanez managed to design and create guitars that meet expectations as both workhorses and pieces of art.
This particular example is for all purposes a combination of both aspects. A beautiful, slick design, immaculate raw materials, combined with the incredible craftsmanship of the most skilled luthiers in the business.
Built in 2008, at Ibanez's FujiGen factory, this piece was part of a collection of unusual and unique instruments, built under the most skilled parameters, and designed to inspire.
The SV frame in was in itself a short lived model, taking the SA design and playability and making it slightly more premium. With design choices such as binding across the body and neck, and the 5-piece maple/mahogany neck, the SV Prestige was at the same level as the today's J.Custom guitars.
In the mid-2000s, Ibanes created a small team within their already highend FujiGen factory, to design and build guitars. Those guitars would be the top of the line of Ibanez's range, only under their own custom shop pieces. This small group was called Team J. Craft.
The Team J. Craft went to produce a number of Prestige line guitars, from the ubiquitous RG to the less known SV models.
This was a plan to elevate the already pinnacle of guitar making under Ibanez, the Prestige line, to even higher levels fo craftsmanship and artistry.
Under the already short-run series of the SV line, the luthiers within FujiGen created a few unique and extremely rare finishes. Besides the more plain, but still flawless finishes already in the run, the Sapphire Blue over a extraordinary Flamed Maple top was one of the most rare and unique colours.
This is an example of that incredible, short-run of amazing Japan-made guitars.
