A preamble on the work and ideas of Steam Pink Collections

 

I am a musician first, then a collector, and following that, an entrepreneur. My idea with Steam Pink Collections is to create a space where distinct ways of collecting can co-exist, meet, and network. 

The Guitar Apothecary was the culmination of this idea. An evening where collectors and musicians would meet, exchange ideas, play instruments, and understand other ways to create a collection.

In my view, a collection should not be pre-established on the financial value or intrinsic rarity of its items. Rather, collection should be an act of curiosity, awe, and learning. Curiosity on unusual stories of items; awe on the lives of objects; and learning to engage with the thing itself and not simply with their prescribed value, that being price or rarity.

A guitar can be both affordable and amazing, it can be part of a common range and have had the most amazing story. Affordability should never be the deterrent for the incredible learning experience that is to find, play, and collect musical instruments.

That is the goal of both Steam Pink Collections as an enterprise and the Guitar Apothecaries as places to meet. We want to elevate the act and the feeling of collecting and collaborating with others above the ruthless math and figures of profit and profitability. Steam Pink’s main objective is to show that one can create the most amazing collection with affordable and approachable items.

To collect, to learn, to share, to meet. That is Steam Pink Collection’s motto.
